Cosmetology  

Course Summary

Course includes instruction in nail enhancement application, pedicures, manicures, and all facets of hair styling, coloring and permanent waving.  A combination of lecture, demonstration, practice sessions and student clinic practice is used during the course of training.  Supplemented with guest speakers, visual aids and other instructional techniques.

2000 hours of instruction—approx. 14 months

  • Braiding, Freestyle (20 operations, 10 hrs)

  • Scalp Treatments (100 operations, 90 hrs)

  • Permanent Waves—all methods (100 operations, 300 hrs)

  • Tinting, bleaching and frosting (65 operations, 195 hrs)

  • Haircutting, Shaping, clipper cuts (130 operations, 150 hrs.)

  • Plain facials, makeup, arches—(35 operations, 35 hrs)

  • Manicures, plain & oil—(20 operations, 36 hrs)

  • Pedicures—(5 operations, 15 hrs)

  • Artificial Nails—(5 operations, 18 hrs)

  • Razor cuts—(20 operations, 20 hrs)

  • Fingerwaves, pincurls—(25 operations, 50 hrs)

  • Desk/Dispensary assignments (40 operations, 80 hrs)

  • Cosmetology Theory Curriculum:

  • Professionalism, Salon Business, Idaho Cosmetology Law (96 hrs)

  • General Business, ethics, communications, employment, payroll deductions, compensation, fundamentals of business management (16 hrs)

  • Bacteriology, decontamination and infection control (4 hrs)

  • Product knowledge, use and safety (4 hrs)

  • Properties of scalp & hair (4 hrs)

  • Nail, skin and the disorders of each (4 hrs)

  • Manicuring, Pedicuring, Advanced Nail Techniques (8 hrs)

  • Theory of massage (4 hrs)

  • Cells, Anatomy & Physiology (8 hrs)

  • Electricity & Light therapy, Chemistry (8 hrs)

  • Haircoloring, Haircutting, Permanent Waving (32 hrs)

  • Braiding, Extensions, Wigs (4 hrs)

  • Facials, Makeup, Hair Removal (8 hrs)

Upon completion of the Cosmetology course, the student will be able to perform all services taught and be prepared to take the final Examination.  All educators evaluate student performance.     


CURRICULUM

Based on 2000 hours of Cosmetology training required by Idaho Law.

Practical application—Detailed basic training in all areas of the Cosmetology field is taught prior to the student providing services to clinic floor patrons (minimum 300 hours).  Extensive hands-on experience utilizing basic training knowledge.  Advance techniques are taught and demonstrated to enhance knowledge of Cosmetology services to serve the needs of the public.  (Approx. 1500 hrs)

Theory requirements—(minimum 200 hrs) Classroom training of the theory of Cosmetology training.
